Named after Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony in the late 17th century,
Simon's Town is surrounded by beautiful beaches and blue waters and is within easy reach of Cape Town's city centre. This quaint town, with its interesting, old world architecture and an array of cobbled streets is the residence of the South African Naval forces.
At the junction of two contrasting water masses - the cold Benguela current on the West Coast and the warm Agulhas current on the East Coast, lies
the Cape of Good Hope.
Here you will find Cape Point, which
was first seen by western eyes in the 15th century when
Bartolomeu Dias
first rounded the peninsula
in 1487 and christened the area, The Cape of Storms.
Winding its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay,
Chapman's Peak Drive is situated on the Atlantic Coast, at the south-western tip of South Africa. Forming a gateway between Cape Town and the South Peninsula, the nine kilometre route was originally constructed during the First World War. If you visit the highlights in the order described, you will arrive at Chapman's Peak Drive shortly before sunset, allowing you to experience this beautiful coastal road in truly, magnificent light.
